Board Being Laid

Term 3 Week 2

Last Thursday I helped to lay down Sam's board to his mould. Sam, Anand and I did this together with the help from Maddy. Firstly we evenly spread one layer of epoxy resin to a piece of plywood. Next we lay down a sheet of fibreglass on top of the epoxy covered plywood. We pushed out any bubbles from the fibreglass. Then saturated the fiberglass with another layer of epoxy resin. The epoxy resin had to be spread evenly to make an even bond across the board, this makes the board strong. We Then got another piece of plywood and spread epoxy resin on one side. We then put this ply on top of the fibreglass. Then we used six clamps and strategically positioned them along the board holding it to the mould. On Monday we took sams board off his mould so we would have the clamps to lay mine and anands boards. On period 3 Anand, Maddy, Michael and I lay my board to its mould. We used the same process as we did for sams. Period 4 us four lay down Anand's board. Today (Wednesday) I updated my blog by adding pictures and reflections. I also updated my calender. Tomorrow I should be taking my board out from my mould. We may also take Anands board out. Hopefully the class will finish laying boards so we can start doing our artwork for the boards. Next week we should be designing our final artwork for both sides of our boards. On Wednesday I will probably be on the computer updating my blog.

Term 3 Week 1

In the holidays I went to Sydney for about a week to visit some of my reletives. It was awesome. The rest of the holidays I spent in Wellington. On Monday (first day back at school) I was doing practical work. I got two pieces of ply and a sheet of fibreglass to prepare my board for clamping to my mould. On Monday I also helped Anand and Sam with their moulds. We managed to finish Anand's mould but did not have enough time to also finish Sam's. On Wednesday ( today) I worked on the computer to update my blog and calender. I posted reflections for the week and filled my calender I also posted a few more pictures of the practical work I have been doing. On Thursday (tomorrow) I should be doing practical work. I wish to get my board clamped to my mould. My board will be made of two sheets of ply, one sheet of fibreglass and epoxy resin. Next week I hope to start making a vinyl for my artwork on my board. I also will probably work on a computer to do my weekly reflections and post any photos.

Broken Test Board

The test board broke as it was not kept in its mould long enough. It was in its mould for only 2 days instead of the needed 7 days.

Term 2 Week 10

On Thursday last week I was on the computer researching materials which I will use in my mould. I also updated my blog and my calender. On Monday I was doing practical work and was helping Anand with his mould. I helped by trimming pieces and also sanding them. On Wednesday I was helping both Anand and Sam with their moulds. I trimmed their different mould pieces to be ready for putting together. Today (Thursday) I am updating my blog by adding reflections and adding photos. This is the last lesson for Term 2 so will be continuing after the holidays. Next term I will firstly lay my board down on my mould. I also need to finish my solidworks design of my board. Hopefully I will gain a quicker pace in making my board next term.
