Term 3 Week 6

Last week on Thursday I was sanding down my board. I had already smoothed down the edges of my board so I started curving the edges. I curved the edges by firstly using a file and then some 120 sand paper. On Monday I had double practical so continued sanding down my board. I not only was curving the edges but was also smoothing down the front and back of my board. I need to do this so the paint work which will go on later will look good. Today (Wednesday) I am on the computer. I have updated my reflections and my calender. I am also am going to post up some more pictures of my progress sanding. Tomorrow (Thursday) I am hoping to get some fine sand paper and finish smoothing my board by giving it a general sand down. Sanding my board has taken longer than expected which is unfortunate because we are running out of time to finish this longboard project. Next week I am expecting to finally start making my artwork vinyls. Whether I will do this on the computer or by hand I do not know yet.

Term 3 Week 5

This week is going to be a mixture of practical and computer work. On Monday (today) I have updated two weeks of reflections, posted two sets of photos and updated my calender. Today I will also try and complete as much of my checklist as possible. On Wednesday and Thursday I will be doing practical work so I will continue sanding the edges of my board. At the rate I am currently working at I should be finished sanding my board by the end of this week. If I do so I can start creating my final artwork for my board. I don't exactly how I am going to get my artwork onto my board but will probably make layers of vinyl to get the shapes I want. Right now I am thinking to have a matte black board with some sort of abstract rasta design. Hopefully I will get to this stage by next week.

Term 3 Week 4

This week I have been doing full practical. On Monday Anand, Sam and I cut out our board shapes. Firstly Terry cut out Sam's for him on the band-saw, I don't know why exactly. Next I cut out my board. It took me a while as my board had lots of curves which needed to be cut. After me Anand cut his board out. I helped him cut out the curved nose of his board. When cutting out our boards we had to leave a small gap between where we cut and the intended line of the board shape. This was so that if we made small mistakes in cutting it wouldn't affect the final result. On Wednesday I started to sand down my board edges to make them smooth. I managed to get about halve my edges sanded smooth. On Thursday I also was sanding my board edges. I did not finish as I had to fix up a chip in my board. Once I have smoothed down the edges I will have to round them to prevent further chipping of the ply when I use the board. Next week I expect to update my blog and calender on Monday, and finish sanding my board over Wednesday and Thursday. Once I've finished sanding I believe I will start creating vinyls for my oard artwork.

Removing Board From Mould

Drawing Board Shape onto Board

Term 3 Week 3

Last Thursday I took my board out from its mould. I had six clamps on the mould which had to be carefully loosened. Some peoples boards got stuck to the clamps while loosening them and pieces of ply came off their board with the clamps. The clamps came off fine on mine so my board was undamaged. However the curves on my board were noticibally uncurving so my board may not turn out how it was intended. On Monday I drew out my board shape onto my board. This took both periods as my board was quite a challenging shape to draw because my board is very curved. On Wednesday (today) I've updated my calender and reflections for my blog. I may also add pictures of work I've been doing and may also work to finsh my checklist. The checklist needs to be finished to pass so I will probably work hard to complete it. On Thursday I will probably be either doing some practical work or be on the computers completing my checklist. Next week I expect to be doing practical work on Monday, updating my blog on Wednesday and also practical work on Thursday. I hope I will be able to create my artwork design on the computer to make a vinyl.
